$10,000 left to go!

March 8, 2012

The early successes (a 30% increase) have been overshadowed by a decline at the end of the 2011 campaign. However, the ambitious goal of $825,000 has almost been achieved. A boost of $10,000 will allow United Way to continue to increase the funding to Fraser Valley programs that will insure children 0 to 6 succeed, and help reduce poverty and homelessness.

Campaign winding down

January 9, 2012

The United Way of the Fraser Valley is closing in on their goal. As of today, the campaign has raised 85% of the $825,000 anticipated. The funds collected, primarily from employees in the Fraser Valley, go to support local programs and agencies.

Campaign Over Half-way

Dec. 15, 2011

With Prospera Credit Union and UFV reporting increases, the United Way goal of $825,000 is within reach.

"Many of our workplaces have taken on the challenge of increasing awareness of United Way, and that has increased donations," said Danyelle Kaluski, an RBC manager of client care who has been loaned to United Way for 16 weeks to assist with the campaign.

Most of the workpalces in the Fraser Valley have completed their campaigns, but compiling the results can take weeks, and sometimes months.

"It will be a couple more months before we know for certain we have reached our goal, but it is looking great," said Lori Masse, the campaign director. "I can't say enough thank you's to the volunteers who have made this happen."

Fraser Valley Donors Give Generously

Nov. 29, 2011

The United Way campaign is running full throttle and has seen some amazing increases. The City of Abbotsford is up 100%, Costco, Future Shop/Best Buy, Manning Elliottt, MNP, KPMG and the District of Mission are all up substantially.

"I think that everyone, at their core, has a desire to have an impact on their community, said Michelle Auger, Loaned Rep from Fraser Health. "When made aware of a worthy avenue where they can have such an impact such as UNITED WAY, their generosity is awakened and they act conscienciously and with purpose."

The goal of $825,000 seems within reach. Thank you to all who have supported the 2011 campaign.

The United Way of the Fraser Valley kicked off its 2011 campaign by announcing a big goal and hosting a pancake breakfast at Thunderbird Square, beside City Hall, on Thursday morning.

Between 350 and 400 people enjoyed the flapjacks.

Last year, the campaign exceeded its $750,000 goal, and brought in $776,779. This year, the bar has been raised to $825,000.

“It’s challenging, but realistic,” said United Way executive director Wayne Green. “If communities get behind it, it’ll be a slam dunk.

The organization does all of its fundraising for the year from September to November. They enlist companies, which encourage their employees to allow payroll deductions that go to the United Way.

The funds flow to 27 different charities and nine programs throughout the Fraser Valley. The three causes the United Way addresses are poverty, homelessness/affordable housing, and “ensuring that children six and under succeed.”

The breakfast was a classic United effort, said Lori Masse, the United Way’s director of resource development, with numerous businesses pitching in, and people donating their time.

Employers who would like to join the campaign should contact Masse at 604-852-1234. Individuals wishing to donate may be able to access a pledge form at their workplace; or mail a cheque to the United Way at Suite 201, 31667 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford, B.C., V2T 1T8; or visit the website www.uwfv.bc.ca.
