Did you vote for our tree?

The United Way campaign team decorated a Christmas tree at the West Coast Christmas show, Dec. 2, 3 & 4 at Tradex. The tree was covered with Change Starts Here change purses, and keychains with Prospera & United Way branded coins to use for shopping carts. Under the tree were gifts for all our member agencies, and it was topped off with balloons (we were being frugal).

First prize, (which we did not win) was $500. Maybe next year.

Loyal Donors Wine @ RBC

The first Loyal Donors event was held last Wednesday at the new RBC branch at Whatcom.

Who are Loyal Donors? They are generous people who have given a gift to United Way every year for at least 10 years without missing once.

To honour their commitment, RBC hosted a wine-tasting cocktail party at their new branch in Sumas Mountain Village. The "store" is beautiful, spacious, and one of the first of its kind in Canada.

Whatcom Wines brought two reds and a white to sip, and Save On Foods provided cheese, breads and dips, plus Italian cookies.

RBC store manager Kathy Haydu presented Wayne Green, United Way executive director, an RBC corporate gift of $13,650.

David Sheach of Big Brothers Big Sisters told a few stories about young people whose lives are being changed. There was then a prize draw (for the Loyal Donors only) of a set of Heat tickets plus a book by Ryan Walter, tickets for the West Coast Christmas Show, and a gift basket donated by the new Shoppers Drug Mart at Whatcom.

Thank you to RBC, Whatcom Wines & Save On Foods, The Heat and Shoppers Drug Mart for your support of this first-annual event.
