Impact Committee
The generosity of Fraser Valley communities has increased the United Way’s ability to fund local programs.
“We have more than doubled our priority grants from a budget of $37,000 to $87,000,” said Leona Fleck, chair of the United Way’s impact committee.
“Fraser Valley residents, including many of our donors, may not realize the preventative work we do to reduce poverty, homelessness and ensuring children under the age of six succeed.”
Fleck, a branch manager with Envision Financial, says the extra funding will mean more dollars will go towards those in our community who are most vulnerable. Last year funding provided grants for Autumn House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, H.O.M.E.S., Women’s Resource Society, Mission Literacy in Motion, CNIB, Sardis Doorway and Positive Living Fraser Valley.
"Because YOU live here, it is important to show how your contributions make a positive impact," said Fleck about United Way’s donors. "Often we don't realize how our monetary gift directly relates to sustaining changes in our community."
United Way's Impact Committee, with representation across the Fraser Valley, will be deciding what programs to fund early in 2011.
