Loaned Representatives

Each year, several local organizations generously “loan” one their employees, or sponsor the hiring of a representative, for 16 weeks during the United Way’s workplace campaign.

These Loaned Representatives:

- Provide support, guidance and inspiration to the many workplace campaigns.

- After a five-day training session, they will assist in running the campaign by implementing the strategies the Campaign Cabinet has confirmed during the CEO visits.

The Job

Each individual will be assigned to work with a group of workplaces within a community or area:

• Develop a goal and action plan for each account.

• Support, motivate and recognize United Way workplace volunteers.

• Speak to individuals and groups about the United Way.

• Monitor fundraising activities and complete a detailed, accurate report and evaluation for each account.

• Attend and assist with special events and other activities, some are outside of normal working hours.

• Attend regular United Way meetings and training sessions which includes: public speaking, negotiation and time management.

• Seek opportunities for new workplace campaigns.

Loaned or Sponsored?

Loaned Representative:

An employee loaned by their employer to United Way for a specified period. The company is responsible for paying the salary, benefits and travel expenses of their employee.

Sponsored Representative:

An individual who is sponsored by an organization that has provided United Way with an honorarium. United Way selects these representatives, who receive a bi-weekly stipend.

The Skills Needed

United Way will provide all of the necessary training and coaching to be successful:

• Interpersonal skills– ability to build relationships, motivate others and encourage involvement.

• Organization and time-management skills- ability to prioritize competing tasks, plan and organize events, and accomplish goals within a fixed timeframe.

• Teamwork skills-the desire and ability to work collaboratively towards common goals with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds and ideologies.

• Communication and presentation skills- able to clearly communicate and present to individuals and groups at all organizational levels.

• Passion & a commitment to help others. Please note: All representatives must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle available for daily use.
