Essential Social Service Grants
United Way provides Essential Social Service Grants to agencies to ensure that there is a strong safety net of services available to individuals in need throughout the community. Often we don't know in advance what services our family members or friends will need, but we want to ensure that those services are there when we need them.
Priority Grants
United Way Priority Grants address the issues that the community has identified as the most critical:
- Ensuring children 0 - 6 succeed
- Poverty reduction
- Homelessness & affordable housing
Housing success story
In 2004 United Way held a community forum where affordable housing and homelessness was identified as a major unaddressed issue in the Fraser Valley. No city or district council in the Valley had affordable housing on their agendas. United Way was the impetus to start the Fraser Valley Housing Network (FVHN).
On September 21, 2011 we celebrated the accomplishments of the FVHN, identifying that the original mission had been accomplished. Every district now has, or is working on, an affordable housing plan. See the sponsors of this initiative and some of the completed projects:
