The first meeting and incorporation of United Way Fraser Valley (UWFV) took place on February 25, 1985. Under the guidance of Walter Paetkau, UWFV made total contributions of $22,769 to 11 member agencies and 32 additional programs in its first year.
Since then, we have evolved into a strong community presence. In 2015, our workplace campaign raised $892,923. The success of this campaign will allow us to support 28 Community Partners and 24 programs addressing poverty reduction, homelessness & affordable housing, and ensuring children ages 0 to 6 succeed.
For more than 30 years we have raised and put to work in our community more than $13 million dollars. Since 2005, United Way Fraser Valley has been working with both partner and non-partner agencies across the Fraser Valley to provide programs and services that are addressing the community-identified priorities.
Providing more than a financial support, United Way Fraser Valley is a collaborative partner and invests time, influence and knowledge where it is needed. The primary goal is to mobilize the community’s resources to create lasting and meaningful change. A leader in collaborative community building, United Way Fraser Valley has created many unique relationships and partnerships; Success by 6, Better at Home, Vibrant Abbotsford, the Emergency Transit Assistance Program and Lending Libraries (Discover Books) are just a few examples.
